Mental pain or physical pain?

Would it be worse to see your girlfriend/wife, parents and/or sibling(s) tortured and killed in front of you, or worse to be physically tortured for the rest of your life?

If you had to pick, say, either you being tortured, for the rest of your life, using the most painful of methods available to do it, or for two of your closest freinds/relatives to be tortured and killed, which would you pick? Look inside yourself and see which would you choose?

i would choose physical pain over mental, as physical pain becomes nullified after some time, but mental pain is something that leaves a deep scar which you cannot cure for the rest of your life!

Some mental pains can be cured, I'm sure of it! XD
Well, I think it just takes time to heal with metal issues.

I wouldn't want to be injured for the rest of my life
with torture. plus, torture could leave a mental scar as well.

i would feel ashamed if i let the people closest to me to be tortured
so i guess i would take the punishment
and i think physical pain will always be accompanied with mental pain
you cannot have one without the other
but physical can be healed over time (in most cases e.g. serious burns)
so mental pain is worse as it can bring around physical pain such as harming yourself

i think human nature (read psychology) is based on the idea of 'the good of the group'. this is why it is, in fact, mentally painful to see others, and specifically loved-ones, hurt.
as such i think human nature would dictate that most people would choose to suffer rather than see 2 loved ones suffer. however, when we get down to a choice between you or one other conventional morality becomes involved.
in this case the moral decision would be to take the torture yourself as it would be immoral to give pain to another, hitherto uninvolved, third party - loved or not.
